Germany, Württemberg

And this tradition goes back many generations, for the Ellwanger family has been tending their vines in Großheppach since 1514. In 1975, Ingrid and Bernhard Ellwanger had the courage to found their own estate and take the step toward independence.
Today, siblings Yvonne and Sven Ellwanger have taken over Weingut Bernhard Ellwanger and cultivate 36 hectares of vineyards in the Remstal valley between Kleinheppach and Schorndorf.
Curiosity and a spirit of experimentation run deep in the Ellwanger family. As early as 1979, Bernhard Ellwanger was the first in the Remstal to plant Muskat-Trollinger. Since his stay in New Zealand, Sven Ellwanger has been passionate about the Sauvignon Blanc grape, which he has been growing in Großheppach since 1997 — further reinforcing the pioneering role of the family estate. Today, Red Riesling is also one of our winery’s specialties.
As members of the winemakers’ group Junges Schwaben(“Young Swabians”), we Ellwangers play an active role in strengthening Württemberg’s image as an open-minded and dynamic wine region. As a winegrowing estate, we also want to send a clear signal of our commitment to acting responsibly toward our environment. That’s why we are certified both as a climate-neutral winery and under the FairChoice standard — wines from certified sustainable cultivation.
Since August 2023, after a three-year conversion phase, we have also been officially certified organic and are proud members of Bioland. The 2023 vintage will therefore mark our first wines produced organically in accordance with Bioland guidelines.
