With the creation of my own winery, I am combining two passions. Continuing the family tradition of winemaking and working in harmony with nature.

My parents and grandparents have also always valued sustainability, but we want to take it a step further. Certified organic viticulture is our answer to the increasingly urgent question: “Where should we take the management of our soils?”

Steep-slope winemakers quickly realize in their daily work that the vineyard is the source of flavor, aroma, and all that is good in wine. Today, we are fully focused on the vineyard—not just for the sake of the wine.

Our unique valley in the Terraced Mosel region provides ideal conditions for outstanding biodiversity. We just have to foster it.

The careful greening of our rockiest steep slopes is not only possible but even beneficial for the vines. This was my first project on the path to organic certification. Hawkweed and wild strawberries now cover the entire vineyard. They gradually build a layer of humus, provide natural ground cover, and protect the vineyard from tall, climbing plants that could harm the vines.

The herbs coexist with the vines, offering a habitat for various insects and lizards. Here, a red-winged grasshopper.

And this is just the beginning. There is still much to improve and develop on the path to implementing ecology in the vineyard.
