The late-blooming autodidact has established himself among the top winemakers in Baden with his internationally acclaimed Pinot Noir.
For generations, his family has been involved in viticulture and agriculture in Schlatt, and it was here that he first encountered vineyard work. From that moment on, he was hooked. Although it would take several more years before Fritz Waßmer produced his own wine, the foundation for a lifelong passion was laid at a young age.
Since founding the winery in 1998, Fritz Waßmer has pursued his own winemaking style: distinctive, refined, and profound wines.
His passion is Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), and his deep connection to Burgundy—the cradle of Pinot Noir—is reflected in his daily work as a winemaker.
With the same dedication, Fritz Waßmer focuses on cultivating and crafting Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, and Frühburgunder. As evidence of his constant creative endeavors, recent years have seen the addition of parcels planted with Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and the very rare Viognier in Germany.
