Since 1924, we, the Hannemann family, have lived and worked at the Heiligenblut estate in the 4th generation. Our label has been reissued based on the design of the oldest known bottle wine label of the estate from 1842.
According to legend, in 454 AD, Christian monks were executed on the grounds of the estate by the Hun king Attila. In memory of this event, Saint Boniface had a chapel built in 746 AD and the first vines were planted.
The Villa Heiligenblut was built in 1826 and is surrounded by our monopole vineyard, the Heiligen Blutberg. This vineyard spans less than 3 hectares and is traversed by volcanic melaphyre, a dark volcanic rock that is characteristic of our wines.
Heiligenblut stands for sustainably produced, honest, and vibrant wines. We see ourselves as the connecting link between low-intervention and tradition, as an expression of timeless consistency and an ambassador of our origin.
Consistently thinking in harmony, rather than in radical extremes.
The focus is on classic Rheinhessen grape varieties: Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Noir, and the Scheurebe, which was crossed in Alzey, and which we have been cultivating since its experimental stage.
