Maibachfarm
About the winery
The Maibachfarm winery is located south of Ahrweiler in a picturesque side valley, just above the historic Calvarienberg monastery. Around 70 percent of the estate’s 9.5 hectares of vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, complemented by 10 percent Frühburgunder and additional varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Some of the Pinot Noir vines on the steep slopes of the Ahr Valley are up to 70 years old. In 1999, the winery consistently converted to certified organic viticulture. Since then, all vineyards have been cultivated according to Bioland standards — out of respect for nature and the conviction that living soils provide the best foundation for healthy grapes and outstanding Burgundy wines. The grapes are carefully hand-selected in the vineyard during harvest. For the top wines, yields are deliberately kept low at around 25 hectoliters per hectare. This commitment to quality begins with meticulous pruning in spring and concludes with careful hand harvesting in autumn. The result is dense, mineral-driven, and distinctive Pinot Noir wines shaped by the slate soils of the region.
