VDP. Weingut Burggarten

About the winery

For over 100 years, Winery Burggarten has been producing wine with passion. Today, in the fourth generation, Paul, Heiko, and Andreas continue what their parents, Gitta and Paul-Josef, built. With the same dedication and relentless pursuit of quality, we create wines that we love ourselves. For us, wine is more than just a product • it’s a passion. We strive for the highest quality by consciously reducing yields and extending ripening times. This allows us to craft wines that impress in every way. As brothers, our close collaboration enables us to produce wines of the highest quality • wines we are proud of. Our vineyards stretch along the steep slopes of the Ahr Valley, a region that offers perfect conditions for our favorite grape varieties. We are particularly passionate about Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and Pinot Madeleine (Frühburgunder), as we, as Ahr winemakers, know these varieties bring out the best of our region. Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay complete our Burgundy family, adding an exciting diversity to our range. Our quality pyramid is based on the belief that the origin of a wine significantly shapes its quality. That’s why we focus on sustainable vineyard management and place great importance on treating nature with respect. We are the Schäfer family, deeply rooted in the heart of the Ahr Valley. Our passion is wine and the nature that makes it possible. For us, wine doesn’t start in the cellar but in the vineyard. On the steep slopes of the Ahr Valley, where volcanic and slate soils shape the terroir, our grapes develop their unique character. Our philosophy is clear: we cultivate our vineyards with respect and dedication. Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us • it’s a commitment to nature, our vines, and future generations. Every step, whether in the vineyard or the cellar, is driven by our goal of delivering the best possible quality in every glass. Our hearts beat especially for Pinot Noir, which has found a special home in our region. This grape variety is a true challenge—but that’s exactly what motivates us. With great sensitivity and patience, we bring out its elegant and complex character in our wines. But our other wines also express the diversity and strength of the Ahr Valley. What drives us? Our love for wine and the joy of sharing this passion with you. We don’t chase trends • we create honest and authentic wines that tell our story.
