Denmark, Zealand
Hideaway Vingård was founded in 2006 by Karin Hvidtfeldt and Jens Michael Gundersen after a long search for the best location for viticulture in Denmark.
They fell in love with the island Fejø due to its mild, almost Mediterranean climate, and the possibility to plant a vineyard on a slightly sloping hill facing southwest. This makes Hideaway one of the oldest vineyards in Denmark, with mature Solaris vines planted at one of the warmest areas for viticulture in Denmark. The mild climate, the rich soil and the organic / regenerative growing form, gives Hideaway Vineyard the opportunity to produce a wine like their signature white wine “Gåsefod”, made like a German Feinherb Auslese.
Hideaways Vineyard & Winery Manager
British Charlotte Louise Langdon is one of only a handful of people in Denmark who has obtained a diploma in permaculture design. Charlotte, commonly known as Lou, is the vineyard and winery manager at Hideaway, where she has built her expertise through a 6-year apprenticeship. Additionally, Lou is currently studying viticulture and enology at the University of California, Davis.
In the winery, we work gently and carefully, using spontaneous fermentation as much as possible and allowing extended time on the lees. We give the wines time to develop, always working with nature in the process.
