Sekt - Nothing Else Ferments in the Bottle
"Bauer & Künstler, Arbeitstier & Phantast, Hedonist & Masochist, Alchimist & Buchhalter – das alles ist der Winzer nun schon seit der Sintflut."
So begins wine journalist Hugh Johnson in his book on wine history. Wine is one of humanity's most highly developed cultural treasures.
Sparkling wine also has a long, captivating history that began hundreds of years ago with classic bottle fermentation. By the way, it was a physician from the Royal Society who, in 1662, was the first to dare to explain what "sparkling" is all about.
Sparkling wine is made using the traditional method and from local grapes.
The quality of high-quality sparkling wine begins with conscious vineyard care and careful selection of local grape material, which determines the quality of the base wine. The traditional classic bottle fermentation is the undisputed method when it comes to creating the finest bubbles and a distinctive aroma in the wine. It requires precision craftsmanship and is, with its unique demands, one of the most elaborate disciplines of winemaking.
The Association of Traditional Sparkling Winemakers serves as a voice and platform for this traditional, artisanal approach to sparkling wine production.
The following Sektmacher members you can meet at the Cool Climate Wine Summit 2025 in Copenhagen.
