The winery founder Julius Wegeler is always quoted as saying "Quality is our philosophy." This has not changed since 1882.

We always want to reflect the respective terroir and the vintage in the best possible way and produce Rieslings that still tell exciting stories even after decades.

Weingüter Wegeler is a family-run business that was founded in 1882. Today, the business is run by the fourth generation of the Wegeler family together with Ralf Frenzel as spokesman for the owner families under the direction of managing director Richard Grosche.

Weingüter Wegeler consists of three winery branches on the Rhine and Mosel, founded on the unifying passion for Riesling. Since the purchase of the Krone Assmannshausen winery, a small but fine proportion of Pinot Noir has completed our company.

Julius Wegeler was initially a wine merchant and sparkling wine producer at Deinhard before establishing himself as a winemaker. The decision to produce wine must therefore be viewed from the perspective of a merchant and trader, based on the commercial practices of the time: The quality of a wine was inextricably linked to its maturity, in addition to its origin. Young wine in today's sense was usually left on the lees for at least two winters, while outstanding vintages were often held back for much longer.

With this in mind, Wegeler needed not only capital, but also foresight, air-conditioned storage space and the most precious commodity of all: Time.

We must pursue viticulture, winemaking and wine sales with foresight and passion!
