Weingut Disibodenberg

Our winery is located in the heart of the Nahe wine-growing region. Wine has been cultivated here since Celtic times, and the Romans systematically established wine culture in our area.

The Disibodenberg Winery originated in the early Middle Ages as an agricultural estate of the Disibodenberg Monastery. It is situated on the site of the former monastery mill. The monastery gained worldwide cultural significance because Hildegard of Bingen lived here for over 30 years and created her most famous work, *Liber Scivias*, at this location. After the secularization of the monastery during the Reformation, the mill and vineyards passed into the ownership of the regional rulers, the Dukes of Palatinate-Zweibrücken.

From the mid-18th century until 1992, the winery was managed by the Schmidt family of Odernheim, who restructured the business in the late 1960s, significantly expanded the vineyard holdings, and built a new cellar. A unique aspect of their approach was their focus on Burgundy varieties, especially Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), which was highly unusual in the Nahe region at the time.
