Weingut Rinke

In 2006, the newcomers Marion and Alexander Rinke took over vineyards in a location in the Langsurer Brüderberg that almost nobody knew about at the time. ‘Im Galgenberg’ is the name given to the steep, partly terraced area of 2.5 hectares between Igel and Wasserbillig (just before Luxembourg). An abandoned gem on shell limestone with great potential.

The duo has revitalised this gem, formerly planted with Elbling, completely cleared and replanted with Chardonnay, mainly old Burgundian genetics, and a few supplementary vines (including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewürztraminer).

‘This can't be everything in our lives,’ thought Marion and Alex Rinke when they laid the foundations for their winery in 2006 as career changers by clearing and replanting a forgotten Grand Cru site on shell limestone.

The two start where many stop. They focus on forgotten Grand Cru sites, which they bring back to life with great enthusiasm and passion. Nothing is too difficult for the duo. The two do many things differently, precisely because they do not run a winery with a centuries-old tradition, but instead follow their own quality-orientated path with fresh ideas.

The vineyards are cultivated according to organic principles in line with the strict criteria of Bioland. Organic certification was awarded in September 2024 after a three-year conversion period.

In the cellar, too, the two work in a minimalist way and as far as possible without cellar interventions and additives. As a result, all Rinke wines are naturally vegan. They are not ‘instant wines’ made ready for consumption with all kinds of additives. Rather, it is worth giving the wines some time to mature in the bottle after bottling. This is why older vintages are the better choice when available.

Marion and Alex Rinke bring two worlds together on the Moselle - on shell limestone and slate. Everything but ordinary.
